Groenland BV is expanding and building its new commercial premises alongside the existing Celieplant and Bouquetnet company building in Japanlaan in Green Park Aalsmeer. Construction officially started on 3 October. A building covering some 12,130 sq. m. will be constructed on a plot of 23,800 sq. m.
Groenland: the courage to grow green!
This is the slogan that Groenland BV – holding company for Celieplant, Bouquetnet, Bloominess and Greenchain – intends to use to make a statement for the future. Groenland bv facilitates a range of support services for its companies to generate efficiency and optimization. The holding also facilitates the companies’ accommodation. In 2014, the existing building at Japanlaan 15 in Aalsmeer was completed and Celieplant and Bouquetnet moved into it. The sustainable construction methods and use of solar panels, water recycling and purification are proof of courage and progressiveness. Here, they not only trade in green, but develop and think in green too.
In order to accommodate all Groenland BV companies according to the basic concept of sustainable business, construction company Hercuton has begun construction of a new commercial unit alongside the existing building. Of course, the commercial unit, measuring 12,130 sq. m., will be built to at least the same standards as the previous one. Again, a prefabricated concrete structure will be used, in line with a sustainable construction method. Completion is scheduled for the spring of 2018 after which an internal relocation will take place. Celieplant and Bouquetnet will relocate their activities to the new building and Bloominess, currently still based in Kudelstaart, will move into the existing building.
What’s the difference?
Although the building is being developed to match the current one, there are still some minor differences. Of course, after three years of use and experience in the current accommodation, there will always be things that can be improved, and the building has some new features, especially when it comes to recycling and reusing materials. At the same time, the new building will work exclusively with ‘clean’ products. As demand for products that have been cultivated entirely ecologically continues to increase, end users and retailers are insisting on ‘clean’ bouquets and plants only. These also need to be processed and packaged in a completely ecologically responsible environment, which, of course, is fully in line with the Groenland bv philosophy.
Although it is normal practice to hold an initial pile-driving ceremony to mark the start of construction, since this was at the height of the summer holidays and Groenland bv likes to be different, the decision was made to celebrate the positioning of the first concrete structure instead. The celebration took place with a small delegation of staff members and business associates. “It is not that we would prefer not to celebrate, but things are extremely busy at the moment and we want to get it right first time, so we will be officially celebrating the opening in the spring of 2018”, explains director/owner John Celie.
Groenland bv is not only committed to sustainable entrepreneurship, but also to social engagement. “We have been supporting Stichting Ons Tweede Thuis in Aalsmeer for many years, a charity for people with a mental disability, autism or non-congenital brain injury. Their motto is YOU&I, something we at Groenland are happy to support. We would like to offer a cheque to Ons Tweede Thuis in honour of our new building.”
